Skutustadir Craters

Gah, midges!

Afternoon at Skutustadir Craters

Chris, reporting on the meteor strike

Thank God for these silly-looking headnets

Once again the sneaking around. Watching them to see if they are watching us. Not that we are doing anything expressly forbidden--only it may be disapproved of, may excite a frown, a curt command, cold, efficient: "Put that away. That's not allowed." So we go searching for a discreet place to sleep. It grows cold as we wait for twilight, the subsidence of crowds, crowds of ordinary people doing things properly.

It wasn't intentional, though--only that we had gotten caught in a place by outdated information. "Oh that campsite hasn't been here for years." Well then.

The days are getting shorter. Some might say summer in Iceland is already over, though there are enough of us stragglers that I can't quite tell either way. Forecast says snow in the interior this weekend. Just in time for our arrival.
