Aimless Wandering in Oaxaca

View Teenie Travels Around the World on chschen's travel map.

Today was hot with a light, dry heat. In the mornng, we stuffed ourselves with plain tamales and empanadas in the Zocalo, sitting on the cool stone rimming the vegetation. We ate almost without speaking, so focused were we on our food. The rest of the day was spent in aimless wandering--to the library, to the bus station, to the ecotourism office, back to the hotel, to the market (more food), to the church, to the ATM, back to the library, back to the church, back to the hotel. (So it has become one of those diaries.) At the end of the day we were tired without fully knowing why.

City living is comfortable but a bit too complacent. I never feel invigorated or pushed here--just weary from boredom and a vague apprehension that I'm not seizing my life, as all inspirational movies teach us to do. Aimless wandering is not my forte.

Is it alive?
