Today's hike was more straightforward--that is, not as muddy. It was sunny for most of the morning and early afternoon, though now the damp has begun to set in, and I suspect our clothes tomorrow will not be much drier than they are now.

If you were a beach people, how difficult was it to become a jungle people? I imagine the wet would take some getting used to. The wet that permeates everything: your skin, your food, your dreams. And you would trade ocean for rivers. They both have their good points, but I think on the balance you lose a little. It's not a question I thought to ask the representative yesterday, and maybe I wouldn't have anyway because it's not a question that can be answered all at once, if at all. You gradually know it, and then you gradually forget it, if you can.

Light fading. Can't see to write anymore. Must go down for dinner.
