Medellín Metropolis

View Teenie Travels Around the World on chschen's travel map.

We arrived in Medellin this morning. It's probably the largest city we've been in since leaving Mexico City, and I realized again walking the streets today that metropolises are at once comforting and overwhelming. The comfort comes from the familiarity, I think. Strolling along the Avenida de la Playa I felt I could have been on Market St in San Francisco. If that were so, then our hotel might be located in a Tenderloin-like area. Online there are repeated warnings not to go out after dark here, but from our balcony it looks all right. I think tomorrow we may try at least to see some of the Christmas lights Medellin is famous for.
